eMarketing Advantage

Why do I need to provide both a text and HTML version of my email?

Business Strata always send both a HTML version and a plain text version for every email campaign.  This ensures that if the recipient can’t read the HTML version of the email, they will still be able to read the text version and respond to your campaign.

This means you must supply us with two creatives (one HTML and one plain text) for each individual email campaign.  Text formats should always be developed in Notepad and supplied in .TXT format.

Is the Thomson Local header optional?

All Thomson Local emails are delivered with a Thomson Local header.  This is important as it ensures that the recipient knows that the email is coming from an accepted source e.g. one they “opted in” to receive emails from.

This header can not be removed or moved into the centre of the email.  It is left aligned and always on a white background.  We recommend you design your email with the header in mind and leave some space at the top of any email creative.  Please don’t design your creative with fixed images or the Thomson header will not work.

How do customers unsubscribe from Thomson Local emails?

The email will also have a Thomson Local “unsubscribe link” at the bottom of the email, details of our address and a link through to Thomson’s Privacy policy.  This unsubscribe link is a legal requirement and it allows the recipient to opt-out of receiving emails from Thomson Local in the future.

Please remove any unsubscribe links from your creative before sending it through to us.

How are the images in the email displayed?

Please make sure the images within the HTML are “hosted” correctly on a server before you send the HTML creative through to us.  Ideally all of the images within the HTML email should be hosted by the organisation booking the campaign.  If necessary Thomson can organise hosting for images: set-up takes a minimum of 5 days and an additional cost of 2p per email broadcast will be incurred.

If you have any questions regarding the hosting of images please contact your Account Manager.

Can I purchase offline data?

Offline data is vital when putting together an integrated marketing campaign.  The ability to re-enforce your email message via the phone or through the mail greatly increases the chance of success.

Off-line data is available at an extra charge and includes:

  • Customer number
  • Company name
  • Name
  • Position
  • Address
  • Postcode
  • Telephone
  • Thomson Heading description and code
  • Flags for bounces and unsubscribes

In addition, you have the option to receive details telling you who has opened or clicked through your email so you can more effectively target just the businesses who are interested in your offer.

How will I get my email campaign results?

As soon as your email has been sent out you will automatically emailed a link to your email tracking screen.  This will allow you to view the email details, the number of emails sent, open rates, unsubscribe rates and click through rates per link.

If you are paying for full opening and click-through tracking it is advisable to request your data download for at least 24 hours after the email broadcast time. This gives the recipients time to responds to the email and show up in your tracking.

The data file can only be downloaded once, so please be take care when downloading the data.  If you ‘lose’ the data it may take around 2-4 hours to re-send your link.

You will require WinZip or a similar file unzipping tool to access the data.

When do I need to supply my email creative?

Your email creative must be received by Business Strata at least 5 days prior to the campaign launch date.  If a creative deadline date is missed, the email send may be delayed.
